History

Laid down on 27 March, 1979, the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate USS Boone (FFG-28) was commissioned 15 May, 1982. While deployed to the Mediterranean on 30 November, 2006, Boone's rudder fell off, and she had to be towed to Rota, Spain, for repairs. The rudder was replaced withing a month, allowing Boone to return to duty, assigned to Destroyer Squadron 14. She earned the units 2005 and 2006 Battle E award, for combat efficiency. Reassigned to the Fifth Fleet in 2010, she saw service in anti-piracy operations off Somalia until she was decommissioned on 23 February, 2012. As of 2020, Boone is in reserve.
