The Argentines ordered a number of ships from foreign builders in the 1910s, and the destroyer San Juan was built by the French shipyard at Nantes. However, she was incomplete at the outbreak of World War I, and like many ships under construction was taken over by the power building her, in this case, France. Entering service in November, 1914, she was renamed Téméraire, and was armed with four 100mm (3.9") and one 47mm (1.9") guns, and four 450mm (17.7") torpedo tubes. She had a top speed of 32 knots and a cruise range of 1,850 nautical miles. Refitted as a minesweeper in 1926, Téméraire remained in service for the next tn years, and was scrapped shortly after.
