History

Laid down in 1997, Le Vigilant (S618) is a Triomphant-class nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine. Commissioned 26 November, 2004, much of her capability is still classified, but she can dive below 400 meters (1,300 feet), and make better than 25 knots. Le Vigilant carries sixteen M45 ballistic missiles as part of her deterrent role, and has four 21" (533mm) tubes for the F17 torpedo or SM39 Exocet missile. Le Vigilant is due for her first refueling between 2024 and 2030.
