LÉ Samuel Beckett (P61) is the lead ship of an offshore patrol vessel class, operated by the Irish Naval Service. Commissioned 17 May, 2014, she runs on a pair of diesel engines that can propel her at up to 23 knots. Displacing 2,256 tons, Beckett is armed with a 76mm OTO Melara gun, two Rheinmetall 20mm autocannons, and six machine guns. Beckett participated in the UN rescue efforts in the Mediterranean in late 2015, picking up a thousand migrants during her deployment. A follow up cruise in 2016 brought her total to 2,310.
