History

Salamis is a Hydra-class frigate of the Greek Navy, laid down in 1994 Commissioned in 1998, Salamis is based on the German MEKO modular frigate, and is armed with a 5" (127mm) gun, Mk 48 torpedoes, and eight Harpoon missiles for offense, and two Phalanx CIWS for defense. In 2007, Salamis became the first of her class to receive the new ESSM surface to air missile, further bolstering her defenses. Sh also carries the Aegean Hawk, a Greek version of the S-70 Seahawk helicopter. A further mid-life upgrade has been repeatedly delayed by Greece's financial issues, but a limited program was slated to begin in 2020, with completion slated for 2023.
