History

Commissioned in 1967, HNoMS Svenner (S 309) is a Kobben-class submarine. Built in Germany, the class was a variant of the Type 205 submarine, modified to fit Norwegian requirements. Displacing 535 tons fully submerged, Svenner has a top speed of 17 knots, and a range of 4,200 nautical miles. Armament consists of eight 533mm (21") torpedo tubes. Norway began phasing out the class in the 1990s, and Svenner was decommissioned in 2003, and transferred to Poland. Recommissioned as ORP Bielik (296), she was overhauled by the Norwegians before the hand-off, and is still in service.
