History

HMS Ocean (L12) is a helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship. Laid down 30 May, 1994, she commissioned 30 September, 1998. Ocean provided humanitarian aid and military helicopter support from Europe to Africa and the Caribbean. She was also used as a base for security operations for the 2012 London Olympics. Ocean served as fleet flagship for the Royal Navy from June, 2015, to her decommissioning in March, 2018. She was sold to Brazil, and recommissioned as PHM Atlântico (A140) in June, 2018. She reached Brazil in August, and began training immediately under Royal Navy guidance.

Fun Fact: Atlântico's motto is "Nosso navio, nosso mar", or "Our ship, our sea." While in Royal Navy service, it was "Ex undis surgit victoria", or "From the waves rises victory".
