History

Halland (J-18) was the lead ship of a Swedish destroyer class. Commissioned in 1955, Halland had a peacetime crew of 272, with a top speed of 37 knots. Cruise range was 3,000 nautical miles, which reduced to only 445 nautical miles if maintaining 35 knots. Halland and her sisters were armed with four 4.7" guns, two 2.2" guns, and six 40mm AA guns, all made by Bofors. Missile armament was limited to the Saab Robot 08, an anti-shipping missile variant of the French CT20 drone. A heavy anti-submarine armament of eight 21" tubes for wire-guided torpedoes and two quad 14.8" anti-submarine mortars finished off the weapons load. Halland remained in service until 1982, and was scrapped in 1985.
