History

Giosuè Carducci was an Oriani-class destroyer of the Regia Marina. Commissioned 1 November, 1937, she had a top speed of 38 knots. Four 120mm (4.7") guns were in the main battery, with four 37mm/54 caliber AA guns, six 13.2mm machine guns, and two triple 533mm (21") torpedo tubes. Carducci received no upgrades before the Battle of Cape Matapan, where she was assigned to escort the Italian 1st Cruiser Division. She was standing by to assist the disabled Pola when the force was ambushed by the British during the night of 28 March. Carducci was sunk within the first five minutes, before she was able to respond.
