History

The Almirante Clemente-class destroyer Genereal José Trinidad Moran (D-22 or F-12) was built in Italy for the Venezuelan Navy. Laid down 5 May, 1954, Moran was commissioned 10 January, 1957. Weapons included twin British QF 4" (102mm) guns, Hedgehog anti-submarine mortars, and 533mm (21") torpedo tubes. She underwent weapons refits in 1968 and 1975, and a service life extension overhaul in 1986. Moran was transferred to the Venezuelan Coast Guard in 1984, and decommissioned in 2009. She was subsequently broken up, though in no great hurry: scrapping started in 2009, and was only partially complete by 2011.
