Gone, But Not Forgotten

Submarines that fail to return form deployments are said to be "on eternal patrol". A tradition in the US Navy has been to broadcast messages to these missing subs and their crews on Christmas, letting them know they aren't forgotten. They go through the list of each sub that has yet to return, wishing them well.
