Allocation of Resources
After the surrender of Italy in September, 1943, Stalin demanded a portion of the Italian Fleet be transferred to the Soviets as war reparations for Italy's involvement in Russia. The logistics of the task made this impossible at the time, so the Soviets were loaned several Allied warships to tide them over. These included the superdreadnought HMS Royal Soverign, and light cruiser USS Milwaukee, which were renamed Archangelsk and Murmansk, respectively. Little maintenance was done while the ships were in Soviet possession, and they were scrapped promptly upon their return home.
