History

USS Fanning (FF-1076) is a Knox-class frigate. Laid down 7 December, 1968, she commissioned 23 July, 1971 as DE-1076. She was reclassified as a frigate in 1975, receiving her FF designation at that time. Fanning served in the Pacific Fleet until she was decommissioned 31 July, 1993, and was transferred to Turkey the same day. Renamed TCG Adatepe (F 251), she was in service until 2001, and is currently in reserve.

Overhead view of Fanning. On the bow is a 5"/54 gun, with an ASROC launcher just before the bridge (it can also be used for Harpoon missiles). Mk 32 torpedo tubes were located amidships, and her Phalanx CIWS is visible on the stern. The helicopter pad for the Seasprite helicopter is visible without the telescopic hangar deployed.
