LÉ Orla (P41)
LÉ Orla (P41) is a Peacock-class patrol craft of the Irish Navy. Originally HMS Swift (P243), she commissioned 3 May, 1985, for service in Hong Kong, but was transferred to Ireland in 1988, and recommissioned as Orla the following year. She is 62.6m (205 feet) long, with a top speed of 25 knots. Orla carries a 76mm OTO Melara cannon, a pair of Rh202 Rheinmetall 20 mm cannons, and assorted small arms for her thirty-nine crew. She has participated in two of the largest drug busts in Irish history, seizing the ketch Brime in 1993, and, in November, 2008, seizing about €750 million worth of cocaine. Orla was indisposed for several months in 2014, after asbestos was discovered aboard. Returning to service, she is still active.
