History

HMS Kildangan was a Kil-class sloop, which were designed as anti-submarine escorts, complete with the new hydrophone detection gear. The Kil-class used a double end design, to confuse direction of travel when viewed through a periscope. Armed with a QF 4-inch (102mm) gun and twelve depth charges, Kildangan was launched in 1918, and missed out on all but the last few months of the war, where her main targets were running low. Kildangan was sold in 1920, along with most of her sisters. Many of the class were converted to light freighters.
