F Constituição (F42) is a Niteroi-class frigate of the Brazilian Navy. Commissioned 31 March, 1978, Constituição displaces 3,800 tons, is 424 feet long, and can make 30 knots. Cruise range is up to 5,300 nautical miles. Constituição was built in Britain, and most of her weapons are European, with Exocet missiles, a Vickers 4.5" mk 8 gun, Bofors AA guns and ASROC launchers, and tubes for the American Mk 46 torpedo, the only non-European weapon aboard. Constituição helped recover wreckage from Air France Flight 447 in June, 2009, and retrieved survivors of the tall ship SV Concordia the following February.
